Zagreb

In the evening hours, as you relax in the Finnish or infrared sauna that we have equipped for you, your attention will be drawn to the illuminated slopes of the Zagreb mountain. While the Sljeme ski slope descends on the Zagorje side, gaining fame through Snow Queen Janica Kostelić and her brother Ivica, the capital, Zagreb, awaits on the other side of the mountain.

With a history stretching back to 1094, Zagreb has been the center of cultural, economic, and political life in Croatia for centuries. Venture out and discover a part of what it offers. Discover incredible architectural and natural beauties, enjoy the nightlife, the culture of coffee drinking, the lush greenery, and street festivals. In every little part of itself, Zagreb hides curiosities and patiently waits for you to stroll through its streets. Explore the city and get to know it. There are more than 200 km of maintained tree-lined avenues, 130 thousand different trees, and more than ten million square meters of gorgeous flowerbeds and lawns.

For Zagorje, it is not just the capital. Zagreb is a city in which we breathe and understand each other. A city to which thousands of people from Zagorje commute daily for work, a city where our children go to school. With Zagreb, we share a dialect, history, culture, and tradition.

By fast roads, train, car, or cable car from Sljeme, however you choose, be sure to go and dedicate a part of your time to our nearest neighbor. New experiences and new memories await you.

CROATIAN ZAGORJE

Welcome to Hrvatsko zagorje, a peaceful destination where you will engage all your senses.

In Croatian Zagorje, amongst gentle hills, seven charming towns await you: Donja Stubica, Klanjec, Krapina, Oroslavje, Pregrada, Zabok, and Zlatar, as well as 25 municipalities that will enchant you with preserved nature, historical tales, authentic rural houses, and hospitable hosts who have been living on their ancestral lands for decades.

Food and wine

Turkey or "duck" with mlinci (a type of flatbread), warm štrukli (a pastry dish), pumpkin pie, corn mush, and warm homemade bread are a feast for the eyes and the palate.

Here, you will find numerous rural households that are the soul of the Zagorje region. Evolved from modest family estates, today they take pride in award-winning wines, pumpkin oils, cheeses, etc.

Restaurants with views over vineyards cherish rural antiques and prepare good food following the recipes of our ancestors.

Castles

A small area, Croatian Zagorje boasts numerous castles and manor houses.

Due to the moderate climate and the mystique of the hills with views, noble families immensely enjoyed living in this part of Croatia. They left an exceptional value to this region as a legacy, and their castles and manor houses surrounded by park forests provide an opportunity to touch history and try to place it in the present.

Certainly, this is one of the most beautiful ways to understand mankind's journey through time.

TERME/SPA

Although we have equipped a pool on the spacious grounds of our apartment for you to enjoy in privacy, it's extremely worthwhile to mention and recommend the spa and thermal springs that our region is proud of. The water park of Hotel Terme Jezerčica, located nearby, consists of eight pools with natural thermal water and is suited for all ages.

Thermal water, with an original temperature of 38°C, contains various ions and is considered to be medicinal mineral water.

Active vacation

The numerous hills where old houses and wooden cellars are situated are best explored by bicycle. Venturing off the main roads leads to the natural idyll offered by the Zagorje region. You can explore the less or more demanding bicycle routes on your own or by renting an electric bicycle.

If desired, local cycling guides will accompany you along the Zagorje trails, introducing you to the history of every village and hamlet and leading you to the best Zagorje wineries and small family farms. This way, you will experience a unique interaction with the local population and fully live the life of the local community. In Zagorje, 13 horseback riding trails have been arranged, totaling 170 kilometers, allowing you to explore every corner of the Zagorje expanses from the saddle, accompanied by professional guides.

Hot air balloons will give you the chance to see Zagorje from a bird's-eye view, while in the Science Park, our youngest guests will learn many interesting facts about the world of physics through an interactive approach. Among the many activities Zagorje offers, workshops hold a special place. In our region, you have the opportunity to learn how to bake your own bread or how to create the most authentic souvenir of this area—the licitar heart.
